# Manage your profile

Update your name, username, locale, time zone, unit system, and avatar.

**Prerequisites:** None.

**Required permission:** None — every user manages their own profile.

## Update your profile

1. Click your avatar at the bottom of the sidebar → **Setting**.
1. On the **Your profile** tab, update any of: **Username**, **First Name**, **Last Name**, **Unit System**, **Language**, **Time Zone**.
1. Click **Update profile**.

Password fields are on this same tab but are optional — see [Reset your password](https://support.toolingmetrics.com/en/account/guides/reset-your-password/) if you want to change it here. ## Change your avatar

You can either upload your own picture or generate a monogram from your initials.

**Upload a picture:**

1. On the **Your profile** tab, click the avatar image or upload icon.
1. Choose a PNG or JPEG file, smaller than 1 MB.

**Generate a monogram:**

1. On the **Your profile** tab, click the regenerate icon next to your avatar (the circular-arrows icon below it).

A monogram avatar is generated automatically the first time you sign up, before you ever upload a picture — this action replaces it with a freshly generated one.

## Notes

- Username must be unique within your site (the same value can exist on a different site's account) and only contains letters and numbers — other characters are stripped automatically.
- Unit System affects the machining calculator and cutting data display; it does not affect Inventory quantities, which are unit-of-measure based, not unit-system based.
- Time Zone and Language override your organization's own defaults for your session only — they don't change what other users see.
