**Prerequisites:** A confirmed, active account — see [Create your account](https://support.toolingmetrics.com/en/account/tutorials/create-your-account/).

By the end of this tutorial you'll be logged in, and you'll know exactly what to expect next based on whether anyone from your company has signed up before you.

1. On the sign-in page, enter your **Email** and **Password**.
1. Click **Log In**.

## What happens next depends on your email domain

Tooling Metrics groups every user by their email domain (everything after the `@`). This was decided automatically the moment you confirmed your email in [Create your account](https://support.toolingmetrics.com/en/account/tutorials/create-your-account/) — logging in is where you first see the result. The very first person to confirm an account on a given domain becomes that domain's **site owner**; everyone who confirms afterward has to request access from them.

### You're the first person from your company

You're in immediately — no extra screen, no approval needed. Signing up with a brand-new domain automatically:

- Created a new **Site** for your domain
- Created a new **Organization**, named after your domain (`acme.com` becomes an organization named `acme`)
- Made you the **owner** of that organization, with full access — no group membership needed

From here, follow the [Administration Get started series](https://support.toolingmetrics.com/en/admin/tutorials/) to set up your organization, groups, and invite your team.

### Your company already has an account

If someone from your domain has already signed up, your account joined that same Site automatically back when you confirmed your email — but your organization membership started as **Requested**, so you can't see any organization data yet. Logging in is when this becomes visible: instead of the normal app, you land on an access-request screen.

1. Write a short note explaining who you are and why you need access (up to 250 characters).
1. Click **Send Request**.

This sends a notification email to your site owner. Once they approve your request, your membership switches to **Active** and you're placed in the organization's default group — from there, an administrator can add you to the specific groups your role needs (see [Manage Users and Permissions](https://support.toolingmetrics.com/en/admin/guides/manage-users-and-permissions/#approve-an-access-request)).

Want to understand why sign-up and login work this way — why the first person becomes the owner, and why you can't use a free email provider to sign up? See [How domain-based access works](https://support.toolingmetrics.com/en/account/overview/domain-based-access/).

You'll see this same access-request screen any time you log in without an active membership in any organization — including if your access is later suspended.

## Next

- **Waiting on approval?** Nothing else to do until your site owner approves your request.
