A **Job** represents one machine setup in a manufacturing plan — a single clamping of a part on a single machine. A project with multiple setups or multiple machines contains multiple jobs. Each job owns its operations, tool list, and NC programs independently.

## Fields

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| **Name** | Job name (e.g., *Op 10*, *Face Side A*). Required. Maximum 32 characters. |
| **Part** | The part this job machines. Required. |
| **Project** | The project this job belongs to. Optional — a job can exist outside a project for standalone planning. |
| **Machine** | The machine this job runs on. Required. Used to filter compatible tool assemblies and to populate setup sheet headers. |
| **Status** | See [Status flow](#status-flow) below. |
| **Order** | Display sequence of this job within the project. Set by dragging jobs in the project view. |
| **Locked** | When true, prevents changes to operations and tool assignments. Toggled independently via the **Lock**/**Unlock** command — not set automatically by status changes. Editing is separately restricted once the job leaves Draft status. |

## Attachments

| Attachment | Description |
|---|---|
| **Picture** | Setup photograph (e.g., fixture layout, clamping arrangement). PNG or JPEG only. |
| **NC Programs** | CAM-generated NC program files. Multiple files allowed. See [NC programs](https://support.toolingmetrics.com/en/engineering/reference/nc-programs/). |

## Status flow

| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| **Draft** | Job is being designed. Operations, tools, and NC programs can be added and changed freely. |
| **Released** | Pre-release check has passed and the job is locked against further edits to operations, NC programs, and tool assemblies. Submitted for engineering-manager approval. Inventory sync has not happened yet. |
| **Approved** | Engineering manager has confirmed the job. This is when all tool assemblies on the job flip to Released status and their products are synced as Inventory Items. |
| **Active** | Job is in production — tools have been prepared and are in use on the machine. |
| **Archived** | Job is no longer active. Read-only. |

## Commands

| Command | Available when | Description |
|---|---|---|
| **Release** | Draft | Runs a pre-release check. On success, transitions to Released and locks the job. Does not sync tool assembly products to Inventory. |
| **Mark as Draft** | Released | Reverses the job back to Draft status. |
| **Approve** | Released | Transitions to Approved. Flips all tool assemblies on the job to Released status and syncs their products as Inventory Items. |
| **Mark as Draft** | Approved | Reverses the job back to Draft status. |
| **Mark as Released** | Approved | Reverses the job back to Released status. Does not undo the tool assembly release or product sync already applied. |
| **Archive** | Active | Marks the job as no longer active. |
| **Active** | Archived | Reactivates an archived job. |
| **Lock** | Not locked | Locks the job against edits, independent of status. |
| **Unlock** | Locked | Unlocks the job so it can be edited (only meaningful in Draft, since other statuses restrict editing separately). |
| **Setup Sheet** | Any | Generates the printable setup sheet for this job. Opens as a PDF. Not gated to any status. |
| **Renumber** (on the **Tool List** tab) | Draft, Released, or Approved (not Active or Archived), and the job has at least one operation | Reassigns tool numbers across all operations, pre-filled with suggested slot numbers based on which tools are already loaded in the machine and the order assemblies first appear in the operations sequence. |
| **Setup Assistant** | Approved or Active, and the job has at least one operation. Never available at Released. | Creates Tool records and Pick Lists for all operations in one step. |
| **Parse Operations from NC Programs** | Any (form is reached from the job's NC Programs tab) | Reads an attached NC program file and builds new operations from the T-codes, names, and comments found in the file. See [NC programs](https://support.toolingmetrics.com/en/engineering/reference/nc-programs/) for how existing operations are handled. |
