**Prerequisites:** A warehouse access point exists in Tooling Metrics (see [Set up a warehouse access point](https://support.toolingmetrics.com/en/inventory/guides/set-up-warehouse-access-point/)). An internet-connected computer with Windows or a Linux-based OS.
**Required permission:** Admin Center access (the organization owner, or a member of the built-in admins group), to enter the computer's MAC address on the warehouse access point.

**ToolingMetrics WAP** is the desktop application operators use at a warehouse access point for everyday stock operations such as picking, returning, restocking, counting, and scrapping. Each computer running the application is tied to one warehouse access point by the computer's MAC address.

For the best experience and stability, use an industrial touchscreen computer with a Full HD widescreen. A label printer and a barcode scanner are optional.

## Download the installer

Download the installer for your operating system from the [ToolingMetrics WAP release post](https://toolingmetrics.com/eng/blog/toolingmetrics-wap-released):

| Operating system | Package |
|---|---|
| Windows 10, 11 | `.msi` |
| Debian, Ubuntu | `.deb` |
| Red Hat, Fedora, SUSE | `.rpm` |

## Install the application

1. Copy the installer to the computer that will run at the warehouse access point.
1. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the instructions to install the application.
1. Open the **ToolingMetrics WAP** application.

## Assign the computer to a warehouse access point

On first start, the application shows a **Welcome!** screen with this computer's MAC address.

1. Copy the MAC address with the copy icon next to it.
1. In the Tooling Metrics web application, log in with an administrator account, open the warehouse access point this computer belongs to, and click **Edit**.
1. Paste the value into **MAC Address** and click **Update**. A MAC address can belong to only one warehouse access point in the whole application.
1. Back in the WAP application, click **Reload now**.

The application now shows **Log in to your account**. Operators log in with their own Tooling Metrics account.

## Troubleshooting

- **The Welcome! screen comes back after reloading:** the MAC address on the warehouse access point does not match this computer. Compare the two values and save the address again.
- **"Unauthorized access" after logging in:** the user has no permission level on any record type the WAP application works with (such as Pick Lists, Items, Tools, or Purchase Receipts) in this warehouse access point's organization, or the organization's subscription is not active. Ask your administrator to check the user's permissions and the subscription.
