**Prerequisites:** At least one vendor exists. Inventory items exist to order.
**Required permission:** Purchase → Purchase Orders — User or above. Admins can send and confirm any purchase order; Managers and Users only the orders they created.

## Steps

1. In the sidebar, click **Purchase → Purchase Orders** → **+ Create**.
1. Select the **Vendor** and the **Deliver To** warehouse.
1. Click **Create** to create the order in Draft status.
1. Click **⊕** to add an order line:
   - Select the **Item** from the inventory list.
   - Enter the **Quantity**.
   - Confirm the **Unit Price** — it pre-fills in the vendor's currency from the item's purchase information.
1. Add more lines for each item you are ordering.
1. Review the order total.
1. Click **Confirm Order**.

## What to expect

After confirming, the purchase order status changes to **Confirmed**. If your organization has [Automatic Purchase](https://support.toolingmetrics.com/en/purchasing/guides/configure-auto-receipt-restock/) turned on, Tooling Metrics creates a **Purchase Receipt** for you automatically. Otherwise, click **New Receipt** on the confirmed order when the delivery arrives.

You can print or export the confirmed purchase order as a PDF to send to the vendor.

## Automatic purchase orders

If your organization uses stock rules and the Inventory Scheduler, draft purchase orders are generated automatically when forecast stock falls to or below a stock rule's Threshold Quantity. These appear as **Draft** orders in **Purchase → Purchase Orders** — review and confirm them like any other order.

## Next
