Install the app and turn on notifications

Install Tooling Metrics as an app on your device and enable push notifications.

Updated

Prerequisites: None.

Required permission: None — every user can install the app and manage their own notifications.

Tooling Metrics is a Progressive Web App (PWA) — it can be installed like a native app on desktop and mobile, and it can push notifications to you even when the browser tab isn’t open. Both are optional and configured from the same screen.

The steps depend on your browser. Chrome and Firefox on desktop install directly from the address bar or menu without extra steps; the browsers below need one of these instead:

Microsoft Edge:

  1. Click the install icon in the address bar.
  2. Click Install.

Chrome on Android:

  1. Tap the menu button (⋮).
  2. Tap Install app.

Firefox on Android:

  1. Tap the menu button (⋮).
  2. Tap Install.

Safari on macOS:

  1. Click File in the menu bar.
  2. Click Add to Dock….

Safari or Chrome on iOS:

  1. Tap the Share icon.
  2. Tap Add to Home Screen.
  1. Click your avatar at the bottom of the sidebar → Setting.
  2. Click the Notification Settings tab.
  3. Click Turn ON push notifications on this device.
  4. When your browser prompts for permission, click Allow.

Once enabled, the tab shows Push notifications are ON.

  • If your browser reports notifications as blocked, you’ll need to re-enable them from your browser’s own site settings for Tooling Metrics — the Notification Settings tab shows a “Not receiving notifications?” help panel with steps specific to your browser and operating system.
  • Push notifications require both browser permission and a service worker registration; if you deny the permission prompt, you’ll need to reset it in your browser’s site settings before you can turn notifications on again — Tooling Metrics itself can’t re-prompt you.
  • Installing the app is not required to receive push notifications, and vice versa — they’re independent, both optional.
