Configure currencies and units
Add a secondary currency and its exchange rate in Tooling Metrics, so you can purchase from vendors in their own currency.
Prerequisites: Organization created.
Required permission: Admin Center access (organization owner or a member of the <org-name>-admins group).
Your organization already has a base currency — USD, set automatically when it was created. If you only ever purchase in USD, there’s nothing more to do here. If you buy from vendors in other currencies, add those currencies now.
Add a secondary currency
Section titled “Add a secondary currency”- In the admin sidebar, click Currencies → + Create.
- Enter the Code (a three-letter ISO 4217 code, e.g.
EUR), Name, Symbol, and the remaining display fields. - Click Create.
A newly added currency has no exchange rate yet. You can select it on a purchase order before you add one, but the order can’t be confirmed without a rate — so set a rate before it’s used for real:
- Open the currency you just added.
- In its exchange rate table, click + in the Actions column.
- Set today’s Date and the Rate — the number of base-currency (USD) units equal to one unit of this currency.
- Click Create.
Exchange rates are entered manually and don’t update automatically; add a fresh one whenever the rate has moved before issuing a new purchase order. A purchase order uses the most recent rate dated on or before its confirmation date, so adding a newer rate never affects orders already confirmed — see Update an Exchange Rate.
Change the base currency
Section titled “Change the base currency”If USD isn’t the right base for your organization, change it under Preferences → Regional settings → Currency — you can only pick from currencies already added to your organization, so add the one you want first using the steps above.
Admin setup is complete. Hand off to the Tooling Engineer to start the Library series — building the product library and tool assemblies your team will use.
