Configure a storage device

Set up the physical layout of a cabinet so the system can guide users to exact storage locations.

Updated

Prerequisites: A Warehouse Access Point exists.

Required permission: Admin Center access (organization owner or a member of the <org-name>-admins group).

  1. In the admin sidebar, click Storage Devices → + Create.
  2. Enter the Name (e.g., Tool Drawer Cabinet).
  3. Set the Type: Manual for a standard drawer or shelf cabinet, Automated for a carousel or vending machine.
  4. Select the Warehouse Access Point this device belongs to.
  5. Set the Up Direction (X, Y, or Z — the axis pointing “up” for this device’s orientation in 3D) and the X, Y Coordinates of the device’s position on the WAP floor plan.
  6. Click Create.

The Setup dialog is only available while the device has zero modules — it is a one-time batch action, not something you can re-run to add more modules later. Once modules exist, add further ones individually from the storage device detail view.

  1. Open the storage device detail view and click Setup.
  2. Click the gear icon on Module 1 to configure it: Module type — Grid, X direction, or Y direction.
  3. Apply the same or different configuration to each additional module. Click + New Storage Module to add more.
  4. Set the Gap and Dimension values of each module to match the physical device.
  5. Click Setup to generate all storage modules and locations in one batch. Each location receives a unique address.
  1. Open the Warehouse Access Point that contains this device.
  2. In the CAD toolbar, click Reload to render the 3D model. Confirm the device appears at the correct position and its modules look right.
