Prerequisites: None.
Required permission: None — every user can create their own API tokens. A token authenticates as you, so it can only do what your own account can do.
Create a token
Section titled “Create a token”- Click your avatar at the bottom of the sidebar → Setting.
- Click the API Tokens tab.
- Click +.
- Enter a Name for the token (what it’s for, e.g. ERP integration) and click Create.
The full token is shown exactly once, right after you create it — copy it now using the copy icon next to it. Once you navigate away, Tooling Metrics only shows a masked version (e.g. tm_usr_ab12cd••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••); there’s no way to retrieve the full value again.
Rename a token
Section titled “Rename a token”- On the API Tokens tab, click the edit icon on the token’s row.
- Update the Name and click Update.
Renaming only changes the label — it doesn’t change the token’s value or invalidate it.
Delete a token
Section titled “Delete a token”- On the API Tokens tab, click the delete icon on the token’s row.
- Confirm the deletion.
Deleting a token immediately stops it from authenticating. This can’t be undone — if something still needs it, create a new token and update that integration instead.
- There’s no way to regenerate or rotate an existing token’s value — delete it and create a new one instead.
- For how a token is actually used to authenticate API requests, see Authentication.
