Export the tool library to CAM
Push validated tool assemblies and cutting data into CAM software before programming.
Prerequisites: The tool assembly’s assets have been built (Build Assets — see Build a tool assembly). Export Package and Send to CAM are hidden until assets are built. Send to CAM additionally requires a connected Autodesk Fusion CAM Connect account and a category with an export mapping for Fusion.
Required permission: Library → Tool Assemblies — User or above. Managers and Admins can export any tool assembly; Users only the tool assemblies they created.
There are two ways to get a tool assembly’s data into CAM software: download a package file and import it manually, or push it directly into a connected CAM tool library.
Export a single tool assembly
Section titled “Export a single tool assembly”- Open the tool assembly.
- Click Export Package in the action bar.
- Choose a format tab: GTC Package (this tab also lists the assembly’s picture, drawing and 3D models to download one by one) or Autodesk Fusion with its options. NX CAM is not available yet.
- Click Export. The package is built in the background and contains the assembly’s ISO 13399 parameters, cutting data, and built assets. When it is ready, click the bell icon: it is at the top of Notifications, and on the Exports tab.
Export multiple tool assemblies at once
Section titled “Export multiple tool assemblies at once”- In the sidebar, click Library → Tool Assemblies.
- Select the checkboxes for the assemblies to export. A selection bar appears above the list.
- Click Export in that bar, choose GTC Package or Autodesk Fusion, and click Export. Bulk export offers no per-asset downloads; the package arrives in Notifications, on the Exports tab.
Push directly to a connected CAM tool library
Section titled “Push directly to a connected CAM tool library”If CAM Connect is set up for your CAM software, skip the manual download:
- Open the tool assembly.
- Click Send to <CAM software> in the action bar. This button only appears once assets are built, CAM Connect is online, and the assembly’s category supports that CAM vendor.
See Connect Autodesk Fusion to set up the connection, or Troubleshoot CAM Connect if Send to CAM isn’t available.
