Create new organization
Set up your organization with a name, language, time zone, company address, and first warehouse.
Prerequisites: You have an active Tooling Metrics account and are logged in for the first time.
Required permission: Site Admin. (If yours is the first account signing up on your company’s email domain, Tooling Metrics already made you a Site Admin and created a starter organization for you automatically — this tutorial still applies if you want to configure it or add another.)
An Organization is the top-level container for all your data — users, tools, inventory, projects, and purchases. Everything you do in Tooling Metrics belongs to an organization.
- Click your organization name at the bottom of the sidebar → Manage Organizations, then click + Create.
- On the Organization step, optionally upload a Logo, then enter the Name (use your company or site name — it appears on printed documents and setup sheets).
- Set the Language. This is the interface language for users who have not set their own.
- Set the Time Zone. This affects how timestamps appear on documents and reports.
- Optionally enter the base Currency as an ISO 4217 code, and choose the Number format, Date format, and Time format. Click Next.
- On the Company address step, enter your company (sold to) address. Click Next.
- On the Warehouse step, enter the Warehouse name, the Access point name, and the warehouse’s delivery address.
- Click Create.
You are now the owner of the organization — full access to everything, with no need for a Group.
What to expect
Section titled “What to expect”The new organization appears in the Manage Organizations list. Because you entered everything up front, its setup is already complete, so you won’t be sent to the setup wizard. Behind the scenes, Tooling Metrics also set up some defaults for you: two starter Groups, a full set of document-numbering Sequences, and USD as your base currency if you didn’t enter one. Your organization has no users and no inventory data yet — that is expected. The next steps in this series adjust those defaults before your team starts adding data.
Configure Groups and Permissions — set up the permission groups your team members will be assigned to before you invite them.
