How to import products from a GTC package

Bulk-import a vendor's product catalog into the Tooling Metrics Library from a GTC package file.

Updated

Prerequisites: You have a GTC package .zip file from your cutting tool vendor (e.g., Sandvik Coromant, Iscar, Tungaloy). GTC packages can be downloaded from the vendor’s website or requested from their sales representative: Find a manufacturer’s GTC package lists where each manufacturer publishes them.

Required permission: Library → Products — User or above.

  1. In the sidebar, click Library → Products.
  2. Click the Import button in the navigation bar.
  3. In the import dialog, click Choose File and select your GTC package .zip file. Your browser reads the package locally and a table shows its metadata (vendor name, acronym, hierarchy version, creation date), then uploads the file in the background — a progress bar tracks it.
  4. Click Import once it’s enabled. It stays disabled until the background upload finishes, even though the metadata table appears right away.
  5. The dialog closes and a flash confirms: “GTC package import started.” The import itself runs as a background job — it is not done yet.
  6. When the bell icon at the bottom of the sidebar shows a red dot, click it to open Notifications. The completed message includes a downloadable import report.

After the import, click the Products icon in the sidebar to refresh the list — the page you were on does not update on its own.

  • If the package contains thousands of products, import may take several minutes.
  • Products from the same vendor imported a second time update existing records rather than creating duplicates.
  • To add products from a manufacturer not available via GTC package, see How to Create a Product Manually.
  • If the import fails or products are missing afterwards, see Troubleshoot a GTC import.
