Import a CAM project
Pull a completed CAM program into Tooling Metrics and create the matching engineering project.
Prerequisites: CAM Connect is configured and your Tooling Metrics API token is set. See Connect Autodesk Fusion for setup.
Required permission: Engineering → Projects — User or above. Export Setups creates the project and its jobs under your name; updating a project someone else created needs Admin.
Export from Autodesk Fusion
Section titled “Export from Autodesk Fusion”- In Autodesk Fusion, open the CAM workspace with your programmed setups.
- In the CAM menu, click Export Setups.
- Fusion uploads the setups — including all tool assignments, operation types, and cutting parameters — directly to your Tooling Metrics organization.
Review the imported project in Tooling Metrics
Section titled “Review the imported project in Tooling Metrics”- In the sidebar, click Engineering → Projects.
- The newly imported project appears at the top of the list. Open it to review.
- Check each job and its operations. Confirm tool assembly assignments match what was programmed in Fusion.
- If any tool assemblies are unmatched (e.g., a Fusion tool not found in the Tooling Metrics library), they appear highlighted. Manually link them to the correct assembly or create a new assembly for them.
Release for purchasing
Section titled “Release for purchasing”- Once the project is reviewed and correct, click Release on the project toolbar.
Release locks the project for approval by the engineering manager; it’s the subsequent Approve step that syncs tool assembly products to inventory and makes the project available for purchase scheduling. See the full status flow in the Projects Reference.
