Troubleshoot CAM Connect
Diagnose and fix common problems with the Tooling Metrics Connect plugin for Autodesk Fusion.
Prerequisites: Tooling Metrics Connect plugin installed in Autodesk Fusion.
Required permission: Engineering → Projects — User or above to export setups; Library → Tool Assemblies — User or above to import the tool library.
Plugin not visible in Fusion
Section titled “Plugin not visible in Fusion”Symptom: The Tooling Metrics Connect panel does not appear under the Manufacture tab.
- In Fusion, go to Tools → Add-ins → Scripts and Add-ins → Add-ins tab.
- Check that Tooling Metrics Connect appears in the list and is enabled (checkbox checked).
- If it is not listed, reinstall the plugin from the Autodesk App Store.
- Restart Fusion after enabling the plugin.
Authentication fails
Section titled “Authentication fails”Symptom: The plugin reports an authentication error, or the Tooling Metrics library stays empty in Fusion.
- Check that the token in Tooling Metrics → Preferences → API Token was pasted completely, with no extra spaces.
- Check that the token is still active: click your avatar at the bottom of the sidebar → Setting → API Tokens tab. If it was revoked, create a new token and paste it in Fusion Preferences.
- If your company uses a firewall or proxy, ensure outbound HTTPS to
api.toolingmetrics.comis allowed.
Tool assembly not found on export
Section titled “Tool assembly not found on export”Symptom: After exporting from Fusion, operations appear in Tooling Metrics but the tool assembly field is blank or shows “Unmatched.”
This happens when the tool used in Fusion does not have a matching record in the Tooling Metrics library.
- In Tooling Metrics, go to Library → Tool Assemblies and search for the assembly by name.
- If it does not exist, create it manually. See Build a tool assembly.
- In Fusion, re-select the tool from the Tooling Metrics library (not from Fusion’s local tool library) and re-export.
Always select tools from the Tooling Metrics source in Fusion’s tool library, not from Fusion’s built-in library. The plugin can only match tools it knows about.
Export completes but project does not appear in Tooling Metrics
Section titled “Export completes but project does not appear in Tooling Metrics”Symptom: The Fusion export says “Success” but the project is not visible in Tooling Metrics.
- Check Engineering → Projects and look for a project with a name matching your Fusion setup.
- If not found, check Notifications (bell icon) for any import error messages.
- Confirm you are looking at the correct organization — use the organization switcher at the bottom of the sidebar.
- If the export error persists, export the project again. Duplicate exports are handled safely — they update the existing project rather than creating a duplicate.
Cutting data not imported
Section titled “Cutting data not imported”Symptom: Operations import correctly but cutting parameters (VC, FZ, ap) are blank.
CAM Connect imports cutting parameters only if they are explicitly defined in the Fusion toolpath, not if Fusion calculated them automatically. In Fusion, verify that the cutting parameters for each toolpath are set as fixed values, not computed values.
Getting more help
Section titled “Getting more help”If none of the above resolves the issue, report it to support. The add-in records errors in a log automatically; there is nothing to switch on. Send that error log with your report so support can see what went wrong.
