Updated

A Setup Sheet is a printed or on-screen document that the shopfloor operator uses to set up a machine for a job. It lists every operation in the job with tool information, cutting parameters, and availability from inventory.

Section Description
Header Organization name, logo, project name, job name, part number, material, machine, and date. See Header fields below.
Tool List One row per operation. See Tool list columns below.
Notes Job-level and operation-level notes. See Notes below.
Field Description
Project The project the job belongs to.
Job The specific job the setup sheet documents.
Part Number / Name The part being machined.
Material The workpiece material specified for the job.
Machine The machine the job is scheduled to run on.
Date The date the setup sheet was generated.
Column Description
T Tool number (sequence number). Matches the T-code on the machine (e.g., T01, T02).
Assembly Name Name of the tool assembly used in this operation.
Operation Operation type and description.
Components Product numbers and designations of each component in the assembly, listed in order from spindle to cutting end.
Cutting Data Vc, fz, ap, ae, n, vf for the selected cutting condition. See Cutting data fields below.
Inventory Status Quantity available in inventory for each component. Color-coded: green = sufficient, red = insufficient.
Cycle Time Expected machining time for this operation.
NC Program NC program reference number.
Field Description
Vc Programmed cutting speed.
fz Programmed feed per tooth.
ap Programmed depth of cut.
ae Programmed engagement.
n Calculated spindle speed, in rpm — the value entered into the machine controller.
vf Calculated feed rate, in mm/min (or in/min) — the value entered into the machine controller.

Notes printed at the bottom of the setup sheet come from two sources:

Source Description
Job Notes Notes that apply to the entire setup — for example, fixture clamping procedure, datum setup, or workholding torque values.
Operation Notes Tool-specific notes printed under the relevant operation row — for example, coolant-through-spindle or feed-out-on-breakthrough instructions.

Setup sheets are available per job or per project regardless of status — Setup Sheet is not gated to Released or any other status. The document is rendered as a printable PDF. See the Read a Setup Sheet guide for how to generate and open one.

At generation time, the setup sheet queries current inventory quantities for each component across all warehouses. Availability is shown per component as on-hand quantity vs. required quantity (1 per assembly). If a component is not in inventory at all, the field shows —.

Setup sheets do not reserve inventory. They are informational only.
