Storage devices

Storage device fields, module configuration options, and 3D coordinate system.

Updated

A Storage Device is a physical container of storage locations — a cabinet, drawer unit, rack, carousel, or vending machine. Devices belong to exactly one WAP and hold the individual modules and locations where items are placed.

Field Description
Name Device name (e.g., Tool Drawer Cabinet, Carousel 2).
Description Optional free-text note, up to 128 characters.
Kind Manual — a drawer, shelf, or cabinet with no controller. Automatic Controlled — a carousel or vending machine with a connected dispensing controller.
Warehouse Access Point The WAP this device belongs to. Set at creation.
Administrator The user responsible for this device. Required.
Up Direction Which axis (X, Y, or Z) points “up” in this device’s own coordinate system.
Up Rotate Rotation, in degrees, applied around the up axis for 3D placement.
Coordinate X / Y Position of this device on the WAP’s floor plan. Required.
Locked Computed, read-only. True whenever the device has a stock move in Waiting or Ready status — a locked device cannot be selected as the source of a new Inventory Adjustment.

A device is divided into Storage Modules — one entry per drawer, shelf, or bay, stacked along the device’s up axis. The Setup action is a one-time batch operation, available only while the device has zero modules; each module you configure there uses one of three layout types:

Module type Behavior
Grid Generates a uniform row × column grid of equally sized locations, from a location count, gap, and default dimension per axis.
X direction Generates one row of locations along the X axis, with an independent dimension and gap per location.
Y direction Generates one column of locations along the Y axis, with an independent dimension and gap per location.

Each module also takes a Name, a Gap (spacing from the module below it), and a Dimension (its own depth along the up axis).

Locations are generated in the batch created by Setup, one per grid cell (or per entry, for X direction and Y direction modules), each with its own name, coordinates, and dimensions. Once a device has modules, add further modules individually (not through Setup) via + New Storage Module on the device detail view.
